Chickens

It seems 50% of the world’s egg production is from chickens bred by ISA Hendrix-Genetics company. That’s a lot of genetically identical eggs. Contrast that with the notion of a local farmer producing chickens from stock that’s been bred in his community for many years.

Another interesting fact, chickens were first domesticated for cockfighting. Cockfighting is one of the oldest human enterprises. All chickens today are descended from birds that were bred for fighting, which in turn were descended from the red junglefowl of Thailand
